GRANTS FOR 2022 - 2023 ARE UNDERWAY, PLEASE HAVE GRANT REQUESTS SUBMITTED BY MARCH 1 2023.
Grants Information The Davis Fund, from donations and proceeds of our annual herb sale, is used for the following purposes:
a. Educational activities for members of the Unit or the general public other than regular Unit meetings b. Scholarships and grants that are directly related to herbs. c. Other projects of an educational or outreach nature that will further the knowledge and use of herbs. d. No grants will be considered related to the medicinal use of herbs, other than their historical uses, in accordance with practices and policies of the Herb Society of America. |
Grants Awarded

1. Alamance Community College-Department of the Horticulture Technology for student support and scholarships. 2. Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden-addition of herb garden component to the kitchen garden and extension of the third grade Education Program serving Forsyth and Guilford County students. 3. Cultural Heritage Garden at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park-futher development and expansion of the Hoskin’s garden for educational programs in the use of herbs during the time of the Revolutionary War. 4. Greensboro Farmers Curb Market-development and implementation of six public educational food tastings to promote eating fresh and local foods using herbs. 5. Hoskins House Garden, Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. The Hoskins farmstead served as a staging area for British troops during the battle. There is the Hoskins house, a reconstructed kitchen, a barn and a blacksmith shop on site. The farmstead also has a kitchen garden and several plots of field crops, all representative of an 18th Century farm. Today, only 7.5 acres of the original 150-acre farmstead is still intact. Funding provided to re-furbush the garden. 6. Blandwood House Museum Garden. Assistancce was provided with a refreshing of the Garden plan, and funds provided for purchase of new plants. |
Requirements

All recipients, organizations or individuals outside of the North Carolina Unit who receive the grant must meet minimum standards, including, as appropriate:
a. Be an accredited North Carolina university, college, community college and secondary or elementary school; and/or b. Have a promising project or activity related to herbs c. Priority is given to projects and schools within the state of North Carolina |
