Unfurling fronts of Christmas fern, Polystichum acrostichoides.  People have cooked and eaten the curled fronds, and they have some historic medicinal uses, though too much can lead to a depletion of Vitamin B.   Most ferns are not edible, so don't eat them unless you know what you have.
